When Lovers Say Goodbye

When Lovers say Goodbye
WHEN LOVERS SAY GOODBYE

Two hearts will ache with sorrow
Two hearts will surely cry
And foolish pride is oft to blame
When lovers say goodbye

One hasty word in anger
Can start a senseless rift
And minds will ache and hearts will break
When love is set adrift

The days and nights seem endless
The hearts know only pain
And nought will fill this emptiness
'Till love is found again

The future plans they nurtured
Lay shipwrecked on the sand
And there they'll stay eternally
Lest both hearts take a stand

The book of life is open
It holds your plans and schemes
Don't let your pen of history write
Of shattered hopes and dreams

To save this love they treasured
Both hearts must give some ground
Both hearts must beat again as one
To save the love they found

But if the hearts are foolish
The wound will never heal
Too late both hearts will understand
The hurt a heart can feel

The bird of love no longer sings
His wings no longer fly
And all the world's a colder place
When lovers say goodbye
