New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolution
NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

A flood of New Year resolutions
Won't fill my mind with fear
I make the same old resolutions
I pledge them every year

I won't make resolutions
That I know will wear me down
I don't want to greet the new year
With a very worried frown

I won't submit to resolutions
That will make each day a test
I just resolve that I will try
To do my very best

I won't make old resolutions
That I know I'll break again
I don't need the guilt of failure
I don't need the conscience pain

And if there's things I want to change
Well, I don't think it's a crime
If I don't make resolutions
I'll take them one step at a time

Some set health resolutions
To quit smoking or lose weight
And if resolutions work for you
I think that's really great

But if these things bother you
And make your life so drear
Why wait for new year resolutions?
You should have worked on them last year

Some seek personal improvement
To break through their old frontier
They can attain all they are seeking
But their resolve must be sincere

I will never be 'perfection'
Because I'm just a simple man
So I won't make foolish pledges
I'll just do the best I can

Some will make a resolution
To forge a new career
I hope success in their endeavour
Will be theirs this coming year

If I have pleasures I enjoy
That don't cause others strife
Then I won't give up these pleasures
I intend to live my life

Resolutions are traditional
They seem to fill the New Year 'cup'
And just to pledge a resolution
Some invent things to give up

One bloke pledged he'd give up smoking
And I laugh about it yet
In all the years I'd known him
He'd never smoked a cigarette

My Aunty pledged to give up chocolate
To trim her swelling hips
She has an allergy to chocolate
It has seldom passed her lips

I have few resolutions
But they're ones that I hold dear
They are simple resolutions
But I pledge them every year

And because I'm far from perfect
I don't need any more
These are resolutions I can keep
I've kept them all before

I'll keep my love for Mother Nature
And all creatures great and small
And every decent human
I'll offer friendship to them all

The years fly by so quickly
We've just one life to live
I want to spread some joy and laughter
In each day that I live

My family is my greatest love
There's so much that we share
I will shower them with affection
So they'll know how much I care

I have two other resolutions
And I wear them like a glove
I will always keep my spirit free
And my heart filled up with love

I hope your dreams will find fulfilment
And your lucky star will shine
I hope good health is your companion
All through two thousand and nine

I hope all your resolutions
Are those to which you can adhere
I wish you peace and love and laughter
And a wonderful new year
