Christopher Columbus Isaac Newton Albert Einstein Aristotle |
New thought is seldom welcomed It invades the 'comfort zone' So people who think differently Should leave their thoughts alone We all know that the world's not round It's shaped more like a wedge And we knew that poor Columbus Would sail straight off the edge And poor old Mr. Newton Sitting underneath his tree Thought a single falling apple Explained a law of gravity And we all knew Galileo Had very little hope Of making great improvement To the restricted telescope We laughed at Copernicus And gave him little worth He claimed the centre of the universe Was not our treasured earth We treated him with outright scorn And said he was a dope And horror of all horrors The man upset the Pope This fellow Albert Einstein How stupid could he be He thought he'd found a theory Of relativity By now you've got the message And I'll shout the thing out loud Though your thoughts could be unwelcome Just ignore the doubting crowd Perhaps the greatest 'thinker' Of earlier mankind Was the man named Aristotle He still can blow my mind He delved in every science His mind could not be bound And I still find ideas he possessed So thoughtful and profound Yet, many felt so challenged With much of what he said And they didn't find contentment Until the man was dead Without differing opinions Our world would not progress Without difference of opinion Life would be a boring mess Without some fresh new 'thinkers' This earth will lose it's way The past has had great thinkers We need them even more today It seems that almost every day A new threat is unfurled So we need some fresh new thinkers To speak out in the world And though you could be ridiculed And threatened with disgrace The thoughts you have within you Might save the human race.
